i have an imac. i need to build a website that will allow people to view and "hopefully" buy my photography. (and i know nothing about starting a website) i was going to go through godaddy for hosting it. but i need to know what program i can use to build it. the only experience i've had with websites is the geocities on yahoo and i designed our website at work using homestead, but that only works on pcs. (and these were already set up for me, i just update them).
can any recommend what i should use? thanks!
You might not need hosting.
Do you have high speed internet access at your home?
If you know how to get a command line on the iMac, type
You will see some numbers that look like 10.251.196.43 or 192.168.1.9
Four numbers separated by periods. If the first number is 24, you might be able to host out of your house. Other numbers might also work

Re: hosting (continued)
That's a really, really bad idea. Really. I can't even go into it, that's how bad of an idea it is.

Learning web development takes time and energy, and building any kind of e-commerce site takes even more. If you're more interested in being a photographer than a web developer, go with DeviantArt or some other hosted solution, and spend more of your time making the thing you sell. If you want to get into web design, then by all means, fire up your text editor of choice and start learning HTML and CSS, but otherwise, I'd avoid it.
Just my $0.02.
i already have pictures posted on fotki.com. but i want to have my own website with my own domain name.
I want to start my own website. but because i have a mac and a lot of programs only work with pc's, i'm not 100% sure on how to proceed.
