About Web Counters/Trackers

Previous Entry Web Counters/Trackers Sep. 15th, 2005 @ 07:13 pm Next Entry
Hi everyone,

I'm a total newbie, and I have a question about web counters/trackers. Is there any web counter software (particularly something free) that you would recommend? My boss wants something that will track not just individual hits, but individual users (who may or may not have repeat visits), repeat visits, etc. I've done a search on Google and found quite a few free ones, but I want to be sure there isn't a hidden cost to them (pop-ups, viruses, whatever).

Something free is best, but if you know of a company that sells a really good counter/tracker, I'd be happy to hear about that too.

And as a last resort, is it difficult for somebody who knows web design (not me!) to come up with one on their own?

I'm afraid this may be an elementary question; so I apologize in advance if it is, or if it's been discussed before (please provide the link!), or appears in a community FAQ (I couldn't find one -- if it exists, please let me know).

a lot of the time your host will provide tracker and counter programs already, so you should definitely check your hosts' site for more info about that.
